The Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program is a four year term Apprenticeship that consists of 144 hours of class work per year. The journeyman status is granted when work opportunities are available, the apprentice completes a minimum of 4,000 hours of on-the-job training (over a four year period), successfully completes all related instructions, and has satisfactory monthly progress reports.
As a Heavy and Highway Carpenter apprentice, you will receive instruction on some of the following:
- Construction Safety
- Power Tools
- Form Setting
- Crane Signaling
- Layout Construction Mathematics
- Scaffolding Systems
- Blueprint Reading
- First Aid/CPR Training
- Rigging & Signaling
- Welding
- Bidwell Machine (set-up & alignment)
As a Pile Driver apprentice,you will receive instruction on some of the following:
- Construction Safety
- Rigging
- Crane Signaling
- Construction Mathematics
- Welding
- First Aid/CPR Training
- Blueprint Reading
- Bearing Piling
- Sheet Piling
- Coffer Dam Construction
Qualification Requirements Of The Program
- Be at least 18 at the time of acceptance into the program
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Have dependable transportation
- Pass the qualifying test
- Doctor’s statement of physical ability
- Able to attend a two week Pre-Job Training
- Pass a drug test – drug use is not tolerated in the construction industry, where safety is a life and death issue
